Note: Your Road to Hana journey begins in Paia, the quaint village on Maui’s North Shore and the last place to fill up your gas tank until Hana. Get an early start!

Note: Drive straight through to the Pipiwai Trail. This way you will beat all the crowds and have the trail mostly to yourself! Save the rest of the stops for the way back!

Note: Drive just beyond OheO Gulch, and you arrive in Hana, the sweet and sleepy town nestled in an emerald rain forest. Keep the windows down to savor the fresh sea air mixed with a sultry essence of white ginger and sweet guava. You’re at the end of the road, ready to turn around and repeat the same stunning trip. Or extend your tranquil trip by spending the night at the romantic Travaasa Hana Resort, where you can surf or horseback ride before you head back. After this sojourn, one can deservedly place the iconic bumper sticker on their car, “I Survived the Road to Hana."

Note: Beach Day! You can rent a boogie board at any of the surrounding Surf Shop. Make sure to try tacos from one of the many food trucks by the beaches!

Note: Watch the sea turtles and crazy surfers on the giant waves.

Note: Side Note:: The roads here are SCARY. Be ready.

Note: Time for snorkeling in the bright blue waters of Maui! We booked with Maui Classic Charters. I read that it was best to book snorkeling tours in the morning due to the wind in the afternoons.

Note: It's about a 2-hour drive to the top of Mount Haleakala from Kehei. It is a 10,000-foot Dormant Volcano with trails and amazing sights. Most people come here for the sunrise (you need a reservation for this), but I am not a morning person so we decided to try the sunset (it did not disappoint).
